Let’s find out more about who you are! (Part 3)

What are your values?

In the previous post we had started a cool exercise that consists of writing the “About us” webpage as you were a company, or a business (See how we did that here). Ok, we haven’t finished writing the “About us” web page of this project of ours, right? We still need to dig a bit deeper and think about our values. So here are some questions that might help: What do you believe in? Do you believe in God? Do you believe in an afterlife and a day of judgment? What is your religion? Do you believe that God can make anything happen? Do you believe in the third law of motion that says that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction? Do you value yourself as a human being? Do you love others? Do you like to help others? Are you a liar? Do you enjoy making others suffer? Do you enjoy laughing about other people? Are you an honest person? Do you try to be as straightforward as you can? Do you enjoy manipulating people? What does integrity mean to you? What place does family hold in your heart? Do you consider yourself a man of service? Are you racist? Do you hate people who are different than you? Do you love everybody and treat them equally no matter who they are or where they come from?

I can go on and on with these questions, but I think that’s enough for now, we can dig a bit deeper later. I just hope from all my heart that you put in the time and energy to answer these questions! And remember you’re doing it so that that project of yours is successful. You want to know about yourself, and your values so that you can figure out what you would like to strengthen and what you would like to reduce to be a better you!

What are your objectives?

Ok, so now we can move to the determination of the objectives of our project. You can also call them goals or destinations as we did when we talked about the definition of success (Make sure to check it out if you haven’t yet: “What is success? Really?”). I’m not going to talk a lot about objectives for now, I’ll talk about it in the next post about finding your WHY, so stay tuned!

Success! You're on the list.

But all I’m gonna say now is that if you answer those questions I just asked in the previous paragraphs, then you might already have an idea about your destinations. Destinations can be things that we want to improve because we like them, we enjoy them and we think that we will have more satisfaction and joy if we strengthen them. Destinations can also be weaknesses that we want to work on, whether it is a skill that we feel that we should learn or things that make us feel vulnerable and weak and we want to get rid of that pain. Remember! We are not asking the “How” questions just yet, let’s stick with the “what” questions for now.

So what are the things that you want to accomplish to feel happier? What are the skills that you would like to get better at? What did you wanna be when you were young ( if you don’t remember you can ask your parents or older siblings about it) What are the things that you’re doing and that you feel guilty about later on? What are the things that you would do for free? If you didn’t have to work for a living and you had all the means to live a comfortable life, what would you be doing with your time? What are the things that make you happy and joyful? And what are the things that bring you down either spiritually, physically or emotionally?

These are usually some very hard questions to answer, but if you answered the “who are you” and ‘what are your values” questions, this should be much easier to go through. And once again, it can take time to figure out answers for everything, but you only need to start, your brain will do the rest for you! You’ll find yourself taking a shower, or cooking or whatever it is and your brain is thinking about an answer to one of these questions that you tried to answer before!

So, let’s all commit to doing that, shall we? Remember, baby steps go a looog way!

I really hope you do this exercice, we’ll talk more about the “Why” questions later and I will also try to share with you some of my destinations for this lockdown in the next posts!

Until then, stay blessed!
